Stuart began his career within the automotive sector working as a mechanical engineer with one of the world’s most prestigious automotive companies, where his product development work optimised the rear suspension for the next generation of their best-selling car. During this time he gained hands on practical experience working with high performance vehicles, experience that has proved invaluable when assisting clients in automotive and related mechanical engineering sectors enhance their IP.
Throughout his career Stuart has built expertise in patenting many aspects of automotive innovation, including autonomous driver aids such as crash avoidance, electronic stability control, lane change and automatic parking, along with in-car communication technologies and IoT.
Alongside this, Stuart has substantial experience in fields as diverse as aerospace, energy and renewables, and medical devices, where he has extensive understanding of aspects ranging from offshore windfarms, waste recycling and battery technology, to inhalers, stents, and emergency body temperature cooling apparatus.
With over 16 years of experience in IP management Stuart has covered a wide range of industries and the full patent lifecycle, from freedom to operate (FTO) and drafting, through to prosecution, successful grant, opposition, and appeal. Stuart advises clients on all aspects of IP management and strategy.
For the past 7 years, Stuart has also been an Examiner for the UK Final Diploma examination, FD2 - Drafting of Patent Specifications; helping to guide and support the next generation of patent attorneys.
